Guide to Solar Water Heating Program
Effective March 2017
Water heaters use more electricity than any other appliance in most houses, representing about 40 percent of your energy use. You can use our island’s abundant sunshine to heat your water instead of buying electricity to do it. Most families save $80 to $100 a month on their electric bills.
KIUC offers a $1,000 rebate toward the purchase and installation of a solar hot water system. With the rebate and state and federal tax credits, your cost could be less than $2,000. Many banks and credit unions will finance your system with low- or no-interest loans.
Below is a list of contractors that participate in KIUC’s solar water heating rebate and zero interest loan programs. You must use one of these contractors to qualify for either a rebate or a loan.
